Montara House
Situated in the coastal town of Montara, this custom coastal residence is designed to respond to the rugged climate, ocean views, and shifting coast light of the Northern California coast. The project utilizes durable natural materials and precise detailing to create a home that is both resilient and deeply connected to its environment.
The exterior is clad entirely in Ipe wood, selected for its longevity, fire and weather resistance, and rich tonal variation. The façade is carefully detailed to establish rhythm, texture, and shadow, allowing the architecture to adapt throughout the day as fog, sun, and ocean air move through the site. The interiors offer a warm and personal space from which to view the ocean and fog in concert.
