House in the Woods

This house in the woods is organized along a single east / west axis in order to take advantage of tranquil views and dappled light on offer in this heavily wooded site. The entryway breaks with the simple gable form of the home and offers a protected arrival area. Wing walls and a large overhang extend over the rear deck to provide seasonal comfort and a viewing perch. A ships ladder at the rear deck provides guests with a secondary secluded deck nested within the main gable - the home prioritizes follies, surprise, and enjoyment which is highlighted in its laid back attitude.
